Hey,

This is my first post on this forum and I had a couple questions about hairloss today, whats to come in the future, and some techniques you guys use to conceal your hairloss.

My first question is the most obvious, what is on the horizon for the 'cure' to hairloss? Are stem cells promising, or is it to soon to tell?

I've also heard about the hair follicles on the back of your neck being cloned (This may be related to the previous stem cells question), whats the status on that and when can we expect something like that to be released to the public?

Are there any other things that I'm missing on the horizon that may lead to the elimination of balding?

Is surgical hairloss getting any better? Are there any new techniques being employed or going to be employed in the next few years that have better results than the surgeries seen in before and after pictures today?

Also I've been taking propecia for a little over a year now and am very happy with the results, I'm shedding noticeably less hairs (I only lose a few or so in the shower, which I believe is natural). My question is how long should I give propecia before I won't have any chance of hair regrowth, 2-3 years?

My last question is about concealing my hair loss. Fortunately the only noticeable hair loss for me is on my temples *knock on wood*, and the only way people notice it is when I'm outside and the wind blows my hair to one side or the other. Its very embarassing for me and I usually just turn away when I can feel it happening.

Other than staying indoors all the time (incredibly boring, haha) are there any certain hair products that help with keeping your hair stay put. I've tried using gels but it mainly just clumps my frontal hair in one clump and just makes my hair loss more noticeable.

Hi Andy,

This is an extremely new form so things are picking up slowly. I'm glad you've taken the time to ask a question and if more people like you stick around and post, it'll encourage more people to post as well. We get a pretty good number of people looking at the forum (as is evident by the thread views) but not a lot of people posting as of yet. We're hoping to get that going as time goes by.

Till then, myself and a few of the doctors are the ones who are posting the most, and we're not always around to get back to people ASAP. However, we'll get back to you much faster than on the blog, which is something.

As far as your questions go, we had a guest blog by Dr. Farjo regarding cloning and we've created an entire tag on the forum simply for cloning issues. You can read those posts here. (http://www.baldingblog.com/category/hair-cloning/)

If you're hoping that the surgical field of hair transplant surgery is going to become some sort of assembly-line procedure that anyone can do well, that may be unrealistic. Even with the advanced techniques we have these days, the still rely upon the skill of the surgeon, and their judgment in where and how the grafts are placed. Add in the fact that not everyone has the same hair density (thus making some people better candidates for transplants than others) and you've got even more factors that can complicate matters.

For finasteride, you'll typically see the what your results will be around 9 months to a year after taking it, but we've seen patients who can see results out to two years. After that I think it's safe to say that whatever progress you see on the drugs will be what you'll see long term.

As far as products to use, most concealers we see are mostly for the crown and the back of the head, not the front. What kind of hairstyle do you wear your hair in?

Thanks Mark,

I did notice a lot of views, but no posts so maybe things will pick up. Thank you for your answers to my questions and I will definitely check out those blog posts related to cloning.

As far as my hair goes I wear it medium-long, kind of a messy style. My only problem is with the wind blowing my hair to the sides which shows the receding hair line at my temples :( . Gels really don't work so I usually don't use any hair products which I think helps me over the long term anyway.

Again Ill be checking back now and again just to keep up to date with the anti-balding campaign.

Thanks

Andy
