I have always been confused in regards to this question. I have had (3) procedures to date 100,700,& most recently 1200 grafts. Everything seems to look good, and I do not have any tightness. Is there a limit on the amount of procedures someone can have? I would love to just soften up the hairline a bit more, but I don't believe it would take much. In fact I met with NHI, and they recommended 800 grafts about a year ago, but how many procedures can someone have? Doesn't the scalp tighten up each time you have a procedure. Maybe I would be better off going with the FUE2. I believe I was told I have roughly 3,000 grafts available, but could I do (4) more procedures of 800 as I thin? Thanks

There are two ways about dealing with your question. First way: The average person has 100,000 hairs (50,000 grafts) and about 30% of them are permanent located on the back and sides of the hair in a worst case balding patient. If we talk in terms of hairs, that means than half of the hairs can be harvested (15,000 hairs or 7,500 grafts). With the strip method the scalp must return to its normal laxity (looseness) which is usually the case. If it does, the density in this permanent zone will decrease with each successive procedure. If, on the other hand you tighten your scalp, you can loosen it with exercises in 2-3 months. The tightness and the density are two factors which become more important with when more procedures are done. I have performed surgery on patients with 20,000 hairs who have Class 7 (the worst type) balding patterns. The FUE story is about the same but the laxity (looseness) of the scalp is not an issue at all, so with your three procedures adding up to 2000 grafts or 4000 hairs, you have plenty (in theory) of hair that can still be moved (about 11,000 hairs or 5,500 grafts). I hope that answers your question. Please feel free to comment further if I have not focused on your question in enough detail.

Hi Thomas,

Quick question, when you had your first procedure of 100 grafts, how was that done? Did they take a strip out or did they extract individual grafts?

it was strip. I must admit I am still a little bit confused if I have 3000-5000 left can I do a small procedure of 1000 or so as I this. Or is that to many procedures? I believe I have heard of people having ten and up. Thanks

sorry for the misprint above. This = thin

Yes, you can easily have more surgery assuming that your looseness of the scalp is adequate to tolerate more surgery (not tight). I have seen some people have over 10 procedure (all small ones) but the problem of more and more procedure may leave more and more scars. It is generally best to do as many as reasonable to get the job done to your satisfaction

I just had 1456 grafts a few days ago, and am thinking before it's all said and done I may have 2,000 to 3,000 more done to really add a ton of thickness to my hair, but what amount of grafts constitutes 'small' 'medium' and 'large'

Thanks,

Rey

I'm a bit confused by your question. Are you asking what number of grafts would be considered a "small, medium, or large" number?

If so, that's completely based upon the person, not to mention extremely subjective.

Thank you so much for distribution this. Absolutely great - but superior info to know!

Hair gels resist natural protein conformations and allow hair to be styled and textured. This is because the stretched-out polymer takes up more space than a coiled polymer and thus resists the flow of solvent molecules around it.

Hello,
I have read in an article in which It came to my attention that Dr. Umar was “right in my backyard” here in SoCal. I read all I could about him and discussed his work with two of his clients who post regularly both here and on another site. I decided to take the plunge and move forward with a conservative number of BHT around the hairline. Yesterday I received 200+ BHT from my thighs. What an exciting “cutting edge” (pun intended) HT experience. Dr. Umar was generous, thoughtful, kind and very skillful. His new offices by the ocean and supportive staff added very positively to the experience. After an initial examination of my hair, we discussed my desires and expectations, filled out some paper work and soon after began the procedure. In every way this was better than a strip procedure. It took a bit longer but there was much less discomfort, pain, bleeding and intrusiveness. If these BHT graphs grow well and my legs heal up nicely, I'll be Dr. Umar’s patient for life. Dr. Umar took pictures and I will follow up when the tiny scabs fall of and new hair is visible. Thanks to Doc U. & EH who shared their knowledge and experience and put many of my concerns to rest so that I could relax and venture in the next frontier of HT technology.
