My insurance doesnt cover propecia. So I was able to get my DR to prescribe me proscar with the intention that I will cut the pill into 4's giving me 4 doses at roughly 1.25mg which I read alot of people do. This saves me roughly $180 month. I got the prescription and they gave me Finasteride 5mg(which is a generic) and it says on the bottle "Disp for Proscar" and is manufactured by a company called Mylan. Should I return this and get Proscar. Is there any ingredient needed that is in Proscar that isnt in Finasteride?

Propecia and Proscar are both just Finasteride in different doses. Propecia is 1mg Finasteride and Proscar is 5mg Finasteride.

When people cut 5mg Finasteride into quarters, they are of course getting 1.25mg Finasteride (if they're cutting it perfectly, most don't).

Hope that answers your question.
