HELLO
I am unsure; I have noticed a bald patch, or what may be a balding patch, or a patch where my hair is naturally shorter(this I doubt). It is located on the back of my head, centimetres below the crown, and is a kind of, ermm, butterfly shape?? I am currently very pissed off as at the youngest end of the scale:mad:. I noticed it a while back, maybe about 6 months, but am quite sure it is more prominent. I recently had my head shaved, a 0.5, and can still notice it. I don't know if i'm going bald, or am just, erm, socially deformed in this way. Any advice gratefull:o seriously, any.

Thanks.

Yo Disgruntled

Sadly I cannot give real professional advice, but Mark who is the hair loss expert will look at your post when he has time. (surely by tomorrow)

It would be interesting to know how you would categorise yourself on the Norwood scale. http://www.keratin.com/az/norwood01.gif Like this you can sort of indicate if your hair loss is caused by genetic balding.

Also what is very advisable is something which is called miniaturization. It maps out your scalp and checks out your hair density over a certain time frame. So you can see if the area of concern gets worse. If you are the do it yourself guy Dr. Rassman has a very nice thread on how you can do it yourself: http://baldingforum.com/showthread.php?p=290

Very luckily hair loss at the back is quiet manageable. There are products like minoxidil and propecia who can control the hair loss very good. Note however that propecia is a drug which needs a prescription. So for obtaining it you need a doctor.

Lain has a lot of good info there. I'd look into it. There was another post recently where someone was showing photos of a soccer player who has an odd pattern in his very short hair, which would be completely unnoticeable if his hair was longer. Sometimes you simply have to play the hand you're dealt in life and little can be done if it's a natural part of your hair pattern.

However if you ARE suffering from a form of Genetic Male Pattern Baldness, then there are a few drugs out there that can help, especially in the crown area. Finasteride and Minoxidil.

But most importantly, you should probably see a doctor about this and see what they think.
