I always thought people with big skulls have worse/stronger MPB that others. :p

Personally I don't think they're unfortunate. To me the reason a lot of men want hair is so that their upper heads have VOLUME. Big skulls = more volume.

Hahaha, I don't know if that's a very scientific study, but if it is I may be in trouble! My head is HUGE. Seriously. I can't wear baseball hats because the bills are always so small I end up looking like I'm wearing one of those hats with the really small bill, like Fidel Castro used to wear. (http://www.elderly.com/images/accessories/TEE/PSFH.jpg) The bills were normal though, they just looked tiny on my huge head.

I'm going to send this off to Dr. R. though, I'm sure he'll get a kick out of it.

The study probably isn't very good. So many people I've seen with big craniums, for some reason, have more extreme baldness, like it isn't just the top middle, some of their upper side hair is gone! Rarely do I see a guy with a small narrow head bald, but this is just my observation of course.

I don't have a big head. In fact I'd say my head is small and narrow, yet my top hair is 60% as thick as my other hair, so, no scalp showing but due to the fact it's relatively thin it look like ass if I don't style it as often as I can. I even spent some time out of class to do this lol.

More of it! http://www.selfgrowth.com/articles/Genetic_Hair_Loss_-_Skull_Expansion_is_the_True_Cause.html

What got me though the most was this..

"DHT can stimulate hair growth, but it also encourages bone growth. Androgens like DHT are steroid hormones which have an anabolic effect on bone formation (i.e., they make it grow!) DHT causes Skull Expansion, which then causes hair loss to start."

DHT apparently DOES this. I googled this info and all results agreed with this statement. It does answer the pattern baldness question better than anything else...doesn't it? Especially when DHT is promoting hair growth AND hair loss?

I'm currently a little skeptical though since women can also have these big skulls...but it's probably not that common with them.

Found an old blog by Dr. Rassman speaking about this very issue! (http://www.baldingblog.com/2009/01/16/skull-expansion/) He shoots the theory down pretty solidly.

Wow...ouch. :p

The skull theory was actually relaxing...because it made more sense and it does explain why only certain follicles go and others don't.

I mean you don't suppose that crown and temple follicles are chosen coincidentally? I thought the fact that, where you would have hair (sides and back) the skin is plushy and where you don't have hair (top) it is rock hard and shiny, means something...probably that part of the cranium expanded and made the gap between bone and skin shorter.

May sound silly but I don't know what explains the pattern baldness any better.

Well...I was comparing a picture of young McCain to current McCain...his skull got bigger, seriously.

I wonder if that's true? I know that your facial features tend to get bigger as you age, like ears, nose etc. But I wonder if your skull can actually increase in size too?

Interesting.
