There weren't exactly threads for this there was just one asking about a link between female hair loss and birth control pills.

I also apologize for the Off-Topic thread I made about DHT and Fin. It actually goes here because in this forum's description it says "threads that don't belong anywhere else", so my thread should be moved here.

Anyway I was wondering what causes female pattern hair loss. I think it's a combination of unusually high traces of DHT + high genetic family vulnerability, but I'm not quite sure.

I'm also wondering what causes female hair loss in which the loss is consistent throughout the head. I don't think that's DHT-related much, but I'm not sure on this one either.

The short answer is thatit's not very well understood. (http://www.baldingblog.com/2007/08/17/female-genetic-hair-loss-is-different-from-male-genetic-hair-loss/) There are many hormal reasons that can take place.

The biggest problem with female hair loss is that it's difficult to get a clinical test on antiandrogen drugs like Finasteride, because Finasteride is known to cause abnormalities in babies born to women who have come in contact with it.

For now, the only drug that's confirmed to help with certain forms of female hair loss is Minoxidil.
