Couldn't tell if this fits in general discussion or not...but it doesn't have much to do with hair loss, rather the substance DHT and finasteride...

My two questions are:

Does ejaculation release more DHT in the blood? I've heard someone say when a man ejaculates DHT is produced (or more of it) is this true or not?

What if a women has sex with a guy taking either Propecia/Proscar?

A woman having sex with a man doesn't have anything to worry about. Dr. Rassman wrote a pretty hefty blog about this a while back with some input from Merck. (http://www.baldingblog.com/2008/08/01/official-word-from-merck-regarding-propecias-effect-on-sperm-and-pregnancy/)

As far as ejaculation creating or releasing more DHT, I don't know if there's any info out there either way, but I don't really think it's really all that important to consider. Here's why.

Lets say that you're genetically pre-disposed to MPB and you're not taking anything for it. No matter what, your hair is going to go at some point in the future. Lets also say that ejaculating releases a ton of DHT and makes you lose your hair faster, would you stop having sex just so that your hair would simply fall out at a slightly slower rate? Of course not.

Sorry I don't have a more precise answer, but I just don't think even a precise answer to the question would give someone any more ammunition in their fight against hair loss.

That blog was so great I didn't even have time to read it! :D

Well as for your second question...you may be surprised but ya I might. I mean, if it would slow down my hair loss, there's a good chance that my follicle thickening from taking Propecia and using minoxidil will outrun my rate of miniturization, resulting into overall thickening. :D

Come to think of it though this is making me more crazy by the day. Once I thought to myself I'd do 300 push-ups a day while fasting just to have good hair on that one day...

Last thing I wanna say is I think I noticed a typo on this page http://www.newhair.com/resources/assessing-hair-loss.asp#classes where it says type V in Regular Norwood classes enlarge is misspelled and in the Type A Variant Norwood Classes there is no description for IIIa...if there isn't supposed to me then nvm! :D

Well shoot, if you're that willing to give up sex for hair, you could simply have your sexual organs removed. Eunuchs never suffer from hair loss. ;)

I keed, I keed!

:D

PS. Thanks for the heads up on the the misspellings. I've sent it to our web guy and it'll be fixed asap.

Well yeah...I just did a little research to be sure on something. Castration is forbidden in islam and I'm a muslim, and castration has been a strong desire for me for a while, not only because lack of sex is a pain, but so is MPB.

The thing I heard about cast though was it doesn't thicken back hair if it has thinned, so, would I be castrated to have hair that was thinned 30-40%, no, not by a long shot, but it wouldn't make sense that hair wouldn't thicken, especially if you're a minox user. 1% of DHT you had when balls were there logically can't compete with daily use of minoxidil or if you use it twice a week like me. In fact I came to realize the thing I really wanted was attractiveness, not so much hair, but that obviously has relevance to attractiveness.

Funny joke: What if someone thought taking Propecia after castration was helpful? :p

this might not be invited at all but i just want to say that most people pay no attention to someone elses hair loss or even notice it especially if they see the person regularly most people look you in the eye or lower they dont look up at your hair that often. Most people anyways, not people like us that are worried about their hair loss. We are the ones most affected by our hair loss it doesnt really reflect on us to others at all, that i know of.

Well said. It is us affected by it but yeah what can you do...if MPB didn't exist we would be on other forums talking about other issues we may have, i.e. bad grades, b**ches, financial problems and other issues related to stress.

Totally, I know exactly what you mean. When I started working at NHI, our web guy Jason said to me that when he started working here all he ever notices when he meets someone new is their hairline now.

I would suppose that those who suffer from hair loss feel the exact same way.

I think we highly associate our hair with our getting of women. Somehow I think if there were no women I would hardly give a crap about how I look. Why would I want to impress a guy? Even a girly looking one? I wouldn't.

Regarding DHT and ejaculation, read this story. I'm not making it up.

My oldest brother does not masturbate, but he seems pretty stressed out usually (doesn't give him a reason to be a prick all the time), is 25, and has temple recession. Top hair seems pretty fair, so he has some degree of hair loss.

My other brother has no hair loss whatsoever. Hair line has not even gone back. Thickest hair in the household along with mom and dad. Dad's a lucky bastard. Turns out he's pretty damn pious, like a monk. 22 years old and never masturbates, ever. So, no stress, or masturbating as a hobby.

Compare that to a guy who just turned 20 and has been masturbating since 12 (me). Yeah, big difference.

Either I or my oldest brother have the thinnest top hair in the house, but he has the most severe temple recession, worse than my dad's, who only lost hair at the temples.

By the way, how DOES stress do anything? I thought the only thing that the follicle gets exposed to is the bloodstream..does being stressful affect that?

...

oh s***

I just thought of something. In my BIO-101 class I got an article talking about how people who have stress healed slower from skin wounds than people without stress. So...I guess stress and bloodstream do have a connection...

Heres one more strange thing that was rattling around in my head. ive been looking hair lines and peoples heads a lot recently after realizing my own hair loss. i really didnt think any of the people i see on tv or around who shave their heads were attractive i just dont like that look. I watch Mad Money almost everynight with Jim Kramer. I was recently wondering why with the billions that guy has how come he hasnt done anything about this shiny dome, he even keeps the hair on the side and back which i used to think if i ever get that far i am shaving it off.

After reading up on him for another reason i realized he just doesnt care he has so much more going on in his life he is a prol at what he does and all types of people find him very attractive because of the confidence he puts out. He's a bald rich guy who isnt ever thought of as being bald yet donald trump who looks like he has a full head of hair is constantly talked about for having a rug... not sure if he does but hes known for that.

Being bald doesnt matter to your coworkers, friends or even girlfriends and it probably hardly affects your chances while looking for a girl if the girl is at all interested and isnt after loss of hair or black lists you immediatly for the being bald its probably the type of woman you wouldnt want anyways a superficial person.

What i think does is when you clearly try to hide it, when its obvious to others that it bothers you say by doing a comb over, a toupee or a sudden change to constant hat wearing. When it looks like youre affected that your confidence is lowered and it affects your self esteem that might be noticeable to others about yourself much more then a loss of hair.

Although most of us here are affected by our hair loss the steps we take arent known for the most part. Like taking meds, life style changes, shampoos and what not. A lot of things we do to affect the way we look are done because we are insecure. This my opinion from how i live personally but im thinking that guys that lift weights to build big muscles do it because their socially insecure. I cant think of any other reason if you dont need the strength and its going beyond healthy living, like running and light weight lifting. Why have big muscles?

This is just my probably bias opinion, i spend a lot of time over thinking this type of stuff.

'tsalright. When you start losing hair and don't like it, especially in young days you will be obsessed with it, and you will be turning around to glance at that man's head and see if he has any crownal hair loss even when he looks full from the front. I was surprised sometimes :D. You'll try to evaluate him and so on. I started doing it last year and still am.

Also typically, for the girl who's most concerned with good looks, she will want an attractive guy, not specifically who has hair, because you can have hair and still look bad to her. This doesn't change the fact those same girls are still again, wanting the attractive guy more than who wants her more. Not saying all girls are like this but yeah, girls perfer handsomeness, right? I'm talking especially when she first meets the man.

Most important thing I will say is EVERYONE is insecure about something. Everyone has fears or one true fear. It doesn't have to be looks. It can be something else. For a pious person, it would be his bad deeds. For a nerd (not meant to be an insult) it would be his grades, etc. To be honest I hate it when people mention other people's "insecurities". The ignorance here is those same people are fearful of something, even if it's just physical pain. My ex told my mom I was insecure about my looks. Funny thing is I know she was also, e.g. when her boyfriend didn't show up on prom day. She probably didn't want to be seen sitting alone.

That said, life is life.

P.S. Going off-topic is so much fun!

I like this post. You know, that friend of mine who I posted the photos of (with the stress-induced bald patch) is someone I've known for well over 10 years. He's a few years older than me and I used to always look up to him, thought he was way better looking than I was, more muscular, thought that he was the guy who would get all the girls, etc.

As we grew to know each other better, he confided in me that he felt the same way about me. The reason he's so muscular is because he does 100 push-ups every day in the morning. He's constantly worrying about his physical appearance and envy's my ability to not worry constantly about my appearance.

I guess that old saying tends to be true, sometimes the grass always seems greener.....

Btw ejac does raise DHT percentage.

http://www.herballove.com/article.asp?art=62

why I even asked it in the first place is a wonder to me :p

Will that affect my lifestyle? Eh...probably not. That's what hairpieces are for anyway. :p
