I have always had a very poor hairline.
Here is what it looked like around 14 or 15:

Not exactly flattering.

Anyway, now I am 20 (21 this spring) and am concerned that I am experiencing MPB. I saw my GP who said it was MPB just from a quick look at it, but he has a history of misdiagnosing me and my family. I consulted online with a hair specialist and he seemed to believe I didn't have MPB, but he only had pictures to go by. So I've come to see what you guys think

What's going on is I seem to have a receded spot right at the front of my hairline where my cowlick is. I am not sure if it's from the cowlick, or if it's just a recession. Luckily I don't have any shedding at this point.

The absolute highest point of the circular recession is slightly under 3/4" from the top wrinkle (that barely wraps around to the front).

One uncle on each side of my family went bald in their early twenties, the rest have their hair. Both grandfathers passed away with extraordinarily thick hair. One great grandfather had a full head of hair, and the other didn't. My father is 52 and experiencing some thinning.

My hair is still thick to the point it needs to be thinned when cut.

My brother also has a very poor hairline but thick hair.

I tried to be as informative as possible. I know this sort of thing is hard to diagnose over the internet. Do you think I could be experiencing the early stages of male pattern baldness? I am too short of money to do my own self miniaturization test and not sure how to find a doctor that would do it for me. I hear balding starts at the hairline, so I'm concerned - specifically about that spot up front.

I really appreciate any input greatly.

Reykjavik,

Just looking at the photos of your hair, I'd say that you've got a fantastic hairline compared to most of the ones that I look at on a daily basis. Your hair looks quite thick as well.

Male Pattern baldness doesn't necessarily start at the hairline. Some people start balding on the crown and only have that kind of hair loss for their whole life.

As far as that raised spot at the tip of your widows peak, that could just be your natural hairline. You can get hair transplanted to make it look more how you want, but if you're short of cash for a microscope to do your miniaturization test then that doesn't seem like much of an option for you either.
