Hi Raidon,
Fincar should be the same as Proscar, 5mg Finasteride. I say "should" because pharmaceuticals made in India are not subject to FDA regulations (http://www.baldingblog.com/2006/04/06/problems-from-fincar-generic-finasteride/) as ones made in the United States.
Side note, that baldingblog.com piece is the 2nd link on google for Fincar. Go us!
Anyway, I take "Finast" which is made by Dr Reddy, another Indian pharmaceutical company, and it works great for me. It's 5mg finasteride as well, so if you want to use it the way you'd take propecia, simply cut the pills into 5ths (since propecia is simply 1mg finasteride). Typically that can be difficult so I just cut mine into 4ths.
That's what I do and it works great for me. I don't have any reason to believe that Fincar should be any different, but your mileage may vary.

Do you buy the Indian generic online? I believe I have read in Dr. Rassman's blog that it can be risky doing the online thing. Generally, what is the costs savings between Proscar and Finast? I haven't done the research, but I assumed Proscar was pretty easy on the wallet anyway, especially compared to Propecia's cost.

To be honest with you, I did it so long ago I don't remember what the price differences were. If I recall correctly, I just picked out whichever one was cheaper.
