View Full Version : Maturing or balding - either way I want to fix before it is obvious

I am currently 25 and am very confused about whether I have a maturing hairline or am balding. Over the past couple years I have noticed a difference in my hairline, however, when I ask people they do not notice a difference. For the record, balding runs on my dad's side of the family, but my mom's father and brother still have their hair, and my hair was/is identical to theirs (thick and curly).
I have followed your guideline as to review my wrinkles and it appears the tip of the middle of my hair is still at its juvenile level, yet the sides are about an inch away, and then I have the corners >1 inch. Starting to form a "V".
Whether I am balding or not, I am starting to think my hairline is getting to high (as with my hair being curly the only thing I can really do to it is style it back, exaggerating the height of the hairline). My question is, can I get a hair transplant now for the corners and to "touch up the front? If I am truly balding, will my balding continue at such a pace that an early transplant will force me to have additional surgeries too frequently?

Thank you!

Hi JWRC.

We do surgeries small and large. It's really up to you whether you decide that you need one.

When patients of ours have surgery we advise them to get on a regimen of Finasteride to prevent much more further hair loss. Remember, if you get a transplant and then you keep losing your hair, the transplanted hair will stay, but the hair behind it will fall out. Not exactly a look most people are going for.

So there's that, you need to be prepared to take drugs for the rest of your life (or until some cure comes along). You won't need to have more surgeries later on, only if you need them. IE, the age you get a surgery is not indicative of future need.

The best, most scientific way we have to see if you're losing your hair is to do a miniaturization test. I highly recommend that before you get into any surgical solutions.

Hope that helps!
