I’m 22 years old with early frontal hair loss confirmed with a miniaturization test which showed a NW3 with mid anterior thinning but right now I'm a NW2. I’m 5 ½ months into treatment with Propecia. For the past 2 months I see way less hairs in the shower and during styling. And now I noticed a little thickening in the left side of my mid anterior which is good. But at the same time I noticed very little loss in the right side of my mid anterior as well. And this is my first loss I noticed since starting Propecia, all this time my hair looked the same. What is going on? Is this normal or am in big trouble? This got me totally freaked.

Also Dr. Rassman says that final results if they happen from Propecia should be evident by 8-9 month into treatment. Can results come in later? Propecia website says up to 1 year! And reading on hair loss forums on the net there were men that didn't get results till like 10-12 months in and some even later! So I don't know what to believe now!?

Propecia/Finasteride (or any drug for that matter) has different effects on different people. Some people might see a pretty instantaneous reaction to it, and some people might not see anything for a while. That's why whenever you see Dr. Rassman writing about it he uses the word "should", and why Merck says "Up to". It's not an exact thing.

On top of all that, Propecia/Finasteride is not going to work on everyone the exact same way either. In some people it only really works well in the crown area. In other people it works all over. In some other people it can actually help to regrow hair. It's really impossible to tell you exactly how it's going to affect you, the best we can do is show you how it worked in studies. It seems like you've done your homework so you've probably seen those studies.

I'd say give it 9 months or so and see how you react to it then. Checking it out all the time is probably just going to give you stress.

Thanks for clearing that up. I always thought Propecia works equally all over even in the hairline as long as there is a lot of miniaturization there! You see right now I'm a NW2 and I got a full head of hair it's just like the first 1.5-2cm into my hairline the hair is miniaturizing and thus it's more see through. I was hoping it would just thicken that up well I guess I will give it more time and pray for a miracle.
