This may come off as trivial, but what does cause hair loss?

Have any studies revealed why follicles on top the head are more "genetically sensitive" to effects of DHT? I'd like know why the hair on the back and sides of the head is more or less permanent while front and top of the head is affected by baldness. The fact that "it is genetic" is not an answer but it is the only "explanation" I've been seeing.

If anyone could chime in with a more in depth comment or a link, it would be greatly appreciated. I apologize if I'm overlooking a related discussion elsewhere on the forum.

One cause of hair loss is the Hereditary Hair Loss. Genetic hair loss isn’t due to excessive amounts of hair falling out, as many believe, but to an insufficient amount of hairs growing back to replace the hairs that have been shed.

There really isn't an answer to your question. We know how hair loss takes place, the chemicals that cause it, etc. But we don't really understand why it happens.
