Hello Everyone,

I'm from a certain Middle Eastern country (don't wanna give it away as it's a fairly small country). And as I go around the supermarket and public places I notice that most males have a more diffuse type of thinning rather than the classic recessions. In fact, I always thought the thinning pattern was the norm.

Are there racial differences in regards to the manifestation of male pattern baldness?

As for myself:
I noticed some thinning on my crown September of this year (I'm 22 years old). And I do suspect some diffuse thinning on the top of my head. As some hairs are wiry and unhealthy, plus I've lose some volume to my hair. I've had a battery of tests to rule out other medical conditions that might cause hair thinning. Ironically I've not had a miniturization study, that's due in March (!!!!). I'm still a Norwood 1. That being said, I'm going to start Propecia on the 2nd of Jan, that's when I'll get my 3 months supply of it. And fingers crossed, all will go well.

P.S. My Donor area feels healthier than the rest of my head and is actually thicker, I'm going to take this as a good thing.

Aside from some native Americans, there isn't really any difference racially. Dr Rassman wrote a post about it a while back. (http://www.baldingblog.com/2005/09/01/racial-differences-in-hair-loss/)

Regarding your plan of action for your own hair, it sounds prudent. Just make sure to take the propecia and then wait a good nine months or a year before you do anything else.

Thanks for the reply. I understand that Propecia works best if started early in the thinning process. I have no bald spots anywhere. So, I'm hopping to stabilize the process and if lucky get some regrowth.

There is no Male Pattern Baldness on my dad's side of the family. As for my mother's side. Most men have a full head of hair. Except one uncle who is a Norwood 3A (50 years old) and my Grandfather who is a Norwood 3A (72 years old). I don't know if that's the pattern I've inherited. But I'll start the Propecia regardless. Once the results from the miniaturization study are at hand I'll have a better idea about the pattern that I've inherited.

Oops, I was wrong. They're not Norwood 3A.

My grandfather (who I just saw 2 days ago) actually still has his Juvenile hairline. His crown is completely gone though. But he has thick hair at the front. And still has his Juvenile hairline. I told him to wrinkle his forehead. The upper most crease of the Frontalis Muscle touched his hairline. Same goes for my Uncle.

Again, I don't know whether this is the pattern I've inherited or not. So, I'll just stick to the Propecia. Took my first dose today. So far so good.
