im an 18 year old male and have noticed slight recession in my hairline. ive seen my dermatologist and he assured me that this was not male pattern baldness and only a mature hairline which almost all men get around late teens and early 20s and is just a small "V" shape at the corners. This didnt completely set my fears to rest. since the hair loss has started Ive noticed my forehead gets very oily threw out the day and i get a tingling feeling in the front of my hair. i started applying minoxidil 5% to both sides of my head and the recession completely stopped and the oily forehead problem and tingling went away. but after seeing my dermatologist i stopped applying minoxidil and just after 5 days ive noticed it started to recede again and the oil and tingling is back.
im still somewhat unclear about what a mature hair line is, can someone explain it to me?
does a mature hairline usually lead to further baldness?
can i prevent a mature hairline?

does this look like a mature hairline to you?

In my opinion, this cannot be MPB by an stretch of the imagination. The corners and temples are strong and show no signs of miniaturization. This is definitely not past the mature hairline. You could recede another 1/4" and not have to worry in my opinion.

I'm not sure what you meant when you tried minoxidil. How long did you use it?

If you're concerned, check for miniaturization in the crown area, temples, and corners and also look at your male relatives to see what your genetics situation is. You have a great hairline though. I wouldn't even recommend minoxidil from what I see in the one picture. Hopefully others will give their opinions.

I started applying minoxidil on the hair in the corners that miniaturized and receded for about a month until i could see my dermatologist. It did stop the hair from receding any further, but i decided to stop to see if it was just going to develop into a mature hairline or go further.

your reply made me feel more confident though, thank you
