Hey guys,
I've received my Celestron, and I've taken a few photos of my scalp. I'm not sure where I should post this, so I've just decided to post it here. Mark, if there is a better place for individual photos, please move this thread.

I am picking mine up tomorrow...they have put it aside for me. It really takes nice pictures doesnt it?
Well I would say that looks like less than 20% minaturization to me...maybe the temple pics they are somewhat thinner...but elsewhere hair looks consistant to me...though I am no expert...
What I would like to know, is: Is shaft thickness naturally shorter on some parts of the head than others...I mean is there a natural gradient? In looking for MPB are we looking for smaller hairs amongst thicker ones in each region, or a change of thickness across regions...? Maybe this is getting too detailed and a change over time is the best thing to look for...
Also, is heit density naturally different on different areas of the scalp...I mean I notice alot of people have thinner hair on top but they are not balding...I think the direction of hairs on the head also seems to give this thinner appearence...

I think shaft thickness is different throughout the scalp, because even when I had 100% density, my hair shafts were noticeably thinner near the crown than elsewhere. Same with hair density.
It all depends on person, I think. The only telling thing is, like you said, change over time, as well as the absolute percentage of miniaturized hairs.
The problem with me is that I'm not 100% certain that all my hair loss is due to MPB. I don't think I show more than 20% miniaturization (though I won't know until a doctor confirms). Another important point is that I'm also losing alot of pubic/body hair. I've lost an equal percentage of my pubic hair as I have my scalp hair. This is the non-MPB portion of my hair loss. But, my temples and hairlines have receded a bit. I've also lost alot of density at the front of my head. This seems to be the MPB side of things.
And one thing I noticed about the hairs that fall out is that the root end is thinner than the tip end. It's all very strange, as I've only seen one online account of someone having the same condition as I do.
Buckerine11, this is great. The only thing that you might want to do is change the labels to the ones in the video that I made, like A, B, C, etc. Just so that we're clear on what they are.
Now that I've created a post showing you guys how to use the microscope to get accurate and repeatable data on your hair, I'm going to start writing up a post on how to actually measure your miniaturization. I promise I'll have that up for you guys by the end of the day.

To me, density looks the same except the 3 hailines pics, which seem to have slightly less hairs and they are definitely finer. I have always had a high hairline, but it was in this region that i started to suspect loss, as it seems to just be a little sparser, but could never be sure. Note that I have shaved my hair about a week ago...fully with razor blade...it grows quick at least...
The rest seem to have the same density and even shaft thickness (anyone who disagrees feel free to state it), except the crown/back pic the hair are much darker...the rest seem almost transparent...maybe because they are thinner...but to me the thickness is the same...it is the colour that is different...
I can't really see a percentage of hairs *within* a shot other than the hairline ones that are noticably very thin...I mean E-InnerMiddle doesn't appear to me to have > 20% small hairs, but they are all less bold than the hairs in H-Crown.
Anyway, I am about to cut my first Proscar quarter...my script is for 1/4 tablet each day. 30 x 4 = 120 days = 4 months. Cost $116 AUD, thats less than a dollar a day...pretty cheap if it means keeping hair or postponing loss...even worth it as insurance if you are not balding! Apparently reduces chance of getting prostrate cancer by 30% as well...
I reckon I will take pictures on a monthly basis. I want to just let it grow and stop worrying about it...there is nothing more I can do...other than try Minoxodile...but one thing at a time...
