Ok, I took a small dose of accutane 40mg from may until august this year. I am a male 35about 225lbs good shape, good diet, ect. I took the accutane for pimples for folliculitus on the back of my head. Medicine worked great, no acne no oil. I actually stopped the medicine 2 months early and even lowered my dosage to 20mg per day. After stopping the medicine I noticed my hair shedding more than normal. I have (had) really thick hair. After being off the accutane for about 3 months now I noticed my eyebrows, eyelashes and hair are all shedding bad. all of my follicullitus is back now, even my oily skin. I now have dandruff on my head and my eyebrows. I have never had this problem before. I went to the derm and he said it will come back. I had a all the blood tests done, thyroid, t3 ect. Although my thyroid was ok he said it was on the high side. To make things worse I had a weight lifting accident 2 weeks ago that put 13 staples on the top of my head. I have had a burning feeling on my scalp time to time. The hairs that are falling out have like dandruff at the bottom. My eyebrows however are the long ones with more of a white pigmintation at the end. I wake up and they are just laying there. I am going insane with this problem. I have read thousand on pages of TE induced hair loss or AA. My hair loss is all over my head no real one spot although the crown is a little thinner and my big ass cowlick seems to be getting bigger. i just had a scalp biopsy done and am waitng for the results. Some days my shedding is worse than others. I do not look in the mirror and hardly scrub my hair. Does accutane normally cause te or aa.

Hey man, I was on accutane as well, I was unfortunate and had to go through 2 whole rounds of it. It does work great! I had no zits but eventually they came back just not as harsh, so they put me on a second round of it which again did wonders. I also noticed shedding in my hair and breakage. Accutane is a great treatment but it destroys your body. It not only dries you out but opens up your pours to a nice degree and closes others which they told me would cause shedding. Now mine wasn't as extreme as yours, but it was there and it caused some frontal damage to as my hair started to become thin. Not sure what in the medicine does it but the medication itself has all kinds of warnings all over it for many things. It could even be that you stopped it early as most of the time the docs will not allow this. If you can afford it start investing in the Nioxin treatment shampoo and conditioners. Those shampoos and conditioners really help to thicken your scalp and has helped me grow some of the hair lost to accutane back. They really work wonders for the scalp and were proven best to work with people whom have lost hair due to medications or cancers. Try those guys out because they really did help me, didn't give me a full set of hair but worked out a bit better then I expected . As for your hair it should go back to normal after a few months, mine did. Again there was some permanent damage but for the most part was ok.

Thanks for the reply man. Its just got me crazy. I look in the mirror every 2 minutes, pull my hair to see have much is coming out. I dont even like going out anymore. Most people cant tell but I have not have my hair cut in like 2 months. I normally use a #2 or 3 clipper. If I did thant now I would look like ****. Like I said I now have a 6 inch scar on the top of my head that is no were near healing. My eyebrows are really fning with me. I do have bushy ones so losing a few isnt that horrible. But if it does not slow down I will look like ****. I am going to wait until the biopsy gets back to see what it says. Sounds to me like I should hope its TE instead of AA. The burning sensation really bugs the **** out of me especially at night. These pimple on the back of me head hurt like **** to.

No worries. Like I said the dandruff is a normal with the medication as it dries you out. Aside from getting the shampoos try to remain calm and not stress as difficult as that may be because it will get worse.
I honestly think it will come back as mine did but will take some months.mine did come back. But it took the good shampoos and conditioners to repair all that damage. Find a good hairdresser lol. I know how bad acne on your head hurts lol its not fun
