Nice to see this new forum. Hope to see lots more visitors in the coming weeks/months!
Anyway, I'm about 45 days Post-Op, and I have some sore, deep, puss-filled pimples in my recipient area. I have read that pimples are not uncommon in the recipient area after a HT, and that it can be helpful to apply a warm cloth to the area to encourage the pimples to clear up on their own. Also, I understand that it's important to be seen by a dermatologist if there are too many pimples.
My questions are:
-Could popping a pimple cause damage to the hair follicle? I have popped a few that had "come to a head", and that made the pimples clear up very quickly. However, now I'm worried that popping can hurt transplanted follicles.
-Might there be any danger (to the newly transplanted follicles) of applying a 4% benzoyl peroxide topical (something my dermatologist has recommended for the acne breakouts)?

I would contact your doctor about that.
I had my surgery with Dr. Pak, and about the same timeframe you're describing, I had some of the bumps appearing on part of my scalp. Dr. Pak perscribed me some antibiotics, since at 45 days out, it's most likely some type of infection to the recepient area.
After a few days on the antibiotics, the bumps went away.

I have answered this question before at: http://www.baldingblog.com/2008/03/18/doctor-warned-me-not-to-pop-scalp-pimples-after-hair-transplant/
A pimple that is ready to 'pop' has be easily drawn out with warm compresses. If there are many and they keep coming back, you need to have your doctor look at it. The causes are many including: infection (folliculitis) which is the most dangerous, remnants of hair spicules from the original transplant causing cysts (most common cause), piggybacking of one graft on top of another (hopefully this is not your case). If these persist, see your doctor

Thank you, both of you, for the responses. I've been employing the warm compress technique, and I've also spoken with my doctor (not in the US) about the lumps. He prescribed ciprofloxacin for me. I hope the lumps will be gone by the end of my ciprofloxacin treatment.
I'm curious... which antibiotic were you prescribed by Dr. Pak? Also, how large were the bumps you had, and were they puss-filled, or did they ever come to a head?

Hello Sir,
My name is Shrini and I am 28 years old, I recently got hair transplanted on my scalp. After two weeks I can see pimples ( bumps) on my transplanted area, later I came to know its called as folliculite.
I consulted my doctor, he prescribed to go for Culture sensitivity test ( Pus culture), after seeing my pus culture report, he prescribed to take Sporidex 500mg capsules. I took this tablets for 14 days ( 2 tablets per day as instructed by my doctor). Folliculities some what controlled but I can still see 2 to 4 on my scalp regularly.
But after one week its again started becoming more and I can see 10 to 15 bumps on my head with pus, its very paining ( something like pinning from inside), also started swelling because of pain.
I again consulted my doctor he prescribed to take same sporidex 500 mg tablet ( 1 tablet every day). But still I can see bumps on my head ( folliculites) , after reaching some size, it will get opened by itself and started bleeding , some times I can see pus and some times blood in the bleeding.
I lost 20 to 30% of hair growth on hair transplated area due to this folliculities, my doctor said its causing due to bacterial infections.
Is there any permanent solution for this diseases?
I appreciate any suggestion from your side on this folliculities diseases or how I can control this.
Is this common on hair transpanted patient ?
I have completed 3 months 10 days ( from hair transplanted day).
Please help me .......
Regards and thanks

See your hair transplant doctor! If you don't trust him, see your primary care physician! But it's very important that you see someone in person about this. This isn't something that you want to entrust to anyone who hasn't evaluated you in person.
