Hi i am 17 years old

im unsure what is happening to me..

I have some thin hairs that fall out but the rest of my hair is very very thick. I havent got an M shape scalp its more like a U. however I went to a hairloss centre just to check because I wanted to see whats happening.

Most of my family is bald but it happened when they were much older. Only my brother went bald young but is still got some. The woman who gave my consultation looked at my hair and said mpb straight away and was redi to sign me up for treatments. but she said I was a
1 on the norwood scale?...then she sent me to another woman who said I have a lot of hair and she wouldnt sell it to me because I have alot still.

my questions are....

are some finer hairs around the beginning of the scalp normal?? where the hairline starts.

And since im 17 and if i already show signs of balding does this mean the process has started and will continue from here on.

or is it possible i become a norwood two and stabilize for 4 years then become a norwood 3 etc etc. or does it just keep progressing.

Also if progressing to a mature hairline does that mean the hair thins and then becomes mature hairline, or is there not thinning in the process of a maturing hairline.

any and all feedback would really be appreciated.

Hi Coolio!

Well first of all I really wouldn't worry, you are very young for MPB and it's quite hard to tell for certain, the woman who gave the consult and wanted to treat you straight off was possibly taking advantage of your age and the fact you were worried, unfortunately it happens.

Some finer hairs at the hairline are normal, nearly everyone has them, MPB shows as they become finer and finer as your hairline recedes.

You may well just have a change in hairline, mine thinned and went back slightly, barely to an NW1 really. It was at about your age, but then I didn't start losing hair for nearly 20 years.

Even if it is MPB or another form of baldness, you are very young and some forms get better by themselves anyway. And there is no way of predicting how fast it will progress, it may be very slow or faster.

Worst case scenario, it could be, but not definitely, so wait and see, if it progresses farther I'd start looking at treatments with fewer side effects like Minoxidil and see if you can halt the hair loss.

Post back if you need any more help!

Finer hairs at the hairline are pretty normal, and if they're saying you're a class 1 and you're 17, I don't know how they'd be able to tell the difference between class 1 and simply changing to a mature hairline.

As far as the progression, there is no clear pattern to how it progresses. With each individual it is different.

As far as you're last question, I'm not exactly sure what you're asking.

At 17 you would be really, really unlucky to begin losing your hair. Usually people don't start losing their hair until they are around 19. Having two types of hair is not unusual as some people seem to retain a sort of downy baby hair as well as their adult hair. You might be losing your downy baby hair rather than your main hair. There is a very good blog entry on http://www.retaining-hair-health.com/2009/12/early-signs-of-hair-loss.html which outlines how to tell if you really are starting to lose your hair.

Also, there are quite a few really good therapies for hair loss now, which will either prevent your hair loss or slow it down so you keep your hair during your important teens and 20's, but before you start using them, check you really are losing your hair, because you might be worrying about nothing.

Best of luck!

I feel you my friend when I was at 20 years of age I start losing my hair and I ask my friends if is it normal to lose hair at this age and they told me that I need to visit a hair specialist but I am shy to visit a specialist so I just decided to research on the internet how to control the falling hairs so I suggest if you can't find answers to your question here in the forum just research and you will find whats the best treatment for you
