Hello ,

Baldingblog has been a very informational site for me. I thank you as well as all the people who have shared their bald problems in the blog site.

I am 27 and I started balding when I was 23 years old but I was least bothered and then when I was 25 years old I had become bald in the horseshoe shaped. At 25, I had a U-V shaped in the front and hair in the vertex region had become weak.

Soon at 25 after around 6 months of research/doc's advice I started taking 1mg finisterde daily along with minoxidil 5mg. Now after taking these 2 medications for close to 2 long years. It has helped me to an extent. I have lost hair but I have lost a little as of today -27yrs.

MY BIGGEST WORRY NOW is

I have been taking 1mg finisteride for close to 2 years and the side effects I had seen in me was very little but I did face some side effects like the ejaculation sometimes was watery but that was rare and very rarely I used to face a decrease in libido.

NOW I M GOING TO GET MARRIED IN ANOTHER 1 month..... can you please help me with my below questions.

I have planned on taking 0.2mg or 0.5mg finisteride after my marriage. Will this be a good step so that I cut down the risk during intercourse or while having a baby.

(1) During sexual intercourse, with condom, is it safe because I will be on 1mg finisteride daily ??
(2) Is it safe or what are the repurcussions when I go for an intercourse without a condom and I am still on with 1mg/0.5mg/0.2mg finisteride daily ??
(3) Say we couple plan for a baby then in that case should I stop on finisteride, If I should stop then how long before should I stop??

(4) the biggest question for me would be does finisteride cause any irregularities in the baby's birth ?? Or the birth will be fine or what ? Have you seen any of your patients going for a baby when the male is on 1mg or 05mg or 0.2 mg of finisteride ? what was the result?

Please provide me with solutions..

Thanks,
Pax Depp

Hi Pax,

Your worries are unfounded. The only chance of birth defects happening because of finasteride is if the mother handles the pills or takes them herself. If the father is taking finasteride it does not cause birth defects.

If you keep them away from your wife, everything should be just fine.

Thanks for the reply Mark, was one of my pet concerns.

Even though I know there's no way Finasteride effects sperm (and that's the only bit the guy has any input with) birth and children is one of those things you still worry about irrationally!

Yeah, I think it's a reasonable concern and I'm glad that people ask. But it's just not the case, fortunately for men who are balding but want to have kids. Otherwise it'd be a tough choice, hair or children? Haha.
