Hi,
I've been looking online for where to go for hair loss treatments in Bangalore and I'm at a loss. The only websites of Bangalore doctors I can find are the hair transplant ones. It seems they also prescribe hair loss drugs. But they have awfully bad copy on their sites. Besides, I am wary of going to get hair loss treatments from those who specialise in hair transplants.
What I want is a doctor who prescribes finasteride and minoxidil, who also gives dietary recommendations and hair care recommendations, someone who also asks about hair fall history, analyses my hair and tries to figure out what's wrong.
I mention propecia and minoxidil because I don't want to end up with a doctor who prescribes homeopathic medication or something like that..
What do I have to do for this? Do I just pick a major hospital and go ask for the dermatologist there?
Hi Chetan and welcome,
Having had similar worries like you I will try to share my experience and maybe you get an answer from it.
In my country any dermatologist more or less has no clue about good hair loss medication. They often give you biotin, that homeopathic stuff and tell you not to take Propecia because it is bad for you. (note: sorry for generalization however that's how it really is in my country) This means you need dermatologist who is specialized in hair loss and very often these are hair transplantation doctors. Maybe Mark (the leader of this forum) can forward you to someone creditable in India.
Propecia needs a prescription but Minoxidil does not (juts in case you want to use this medication its over the counter available)

Thank you for your advice, Lain. It is very much appreciated.
How do I contact Mark?
Again, thank you. I guess I'll visit an HT doctor and a dermatologist. Maybe more than one of each. I don't know what else to do.
Mark appears to be very busy at the moment. I hope he gets a chance to look at your post asap.
Hi Chetan,
I wish I could provide you with good doctors in India, but we're based in Los Angeles California, United States. I really don't have a good answer for you.
The best thing that I think you can do, if you can't find a competent doctor, would be to try and evaluate your own scalp and hair using a microscope like we have linked at the top of the page. This will give you the ability to determine if your hairs are miniaturizing excessively and how badly. It will also give you the ability to see what sort of pattern you're losing hair in. Then you can try different medications like finasteride or minoxidil to stop the hair loss.
I hope it works out for you, and if you find a doctor that you're happy with, be sure to come back here and let us know so that other people in your situation can get help too.
-Mark
