Hey Good People!

My name is Kyle and I am a hairstylist in North Carolina, for at least the last 3 - 4 years now I noticed my sister's hair becoming thin mostly on top. The earliest I can remember I can picture my sister with this big wild mane of hair and now as she get's older. Her hair get's extremely oily she has to shampoo it every day and uses conditioner every few days not all the time and she says she shampoos it at least 3 times in the shower. At first I thought that was a good idea coming from a hairstylist POV- it would hold style and up dos better. I did read online that when you shampoo your hair that much with no conditioner it can almost make the situation worse because your scalp feels like it's not producing enough oil for the scalp so it almost produces too much oil. As a stylist I noticed her hair thinning around she was 17...mostly around her hair line and now it's really noticeable to me especially under lights in the room. When it is freshly washed hair it looks pretty good but a few hours later it's oily and the style falls apart. We do color her hair dark...but recently I've been going a shade or two lighter cause I realize her pale skin/scalp with this jet black hair shows more of the thinness of her hair.

I haven't been able to fall asleep at night because it's all I think about because she is my baby sister and being a hairstylist I feel like I need to do something to help save her self esteem and image of herself. We have gotten her blood tested before and results came out pretty normal. Her face get's very oily as well and she has enlarged pores on her forehead and cheekbones. She is about 20-25 lbs overweight, we also have thyroid problems and diabetes in our family history but nobody in my family has as thin hair as my sister. She does get stressed out a bit especially being nursing school and key holder at our grocery store. I have her taking Biotin daily and I am in the process of buying her balancing shampoo and conditioner to help control the oil that comes from her scalp. Does anybody else have other ideas or suggestions? I feel like I see her hair over time getting thinner and thinner especially reading about miniaturization of the hair follicle. I know hair thinning in teenage girls happen but isn't that common, i feel so helpless when I think about my sisters hair problem. Please Please Please Help! Thank you

Sincerely,

Kyle James
