I have been keen to get on finasteride for a while now, but i seem frustrated by sourcing it. Every pharmacy i have visited (south london) does not stock the product. My plan was to try out propecia 1mg and if it was well tolerated, then switch to 1.25 generic proscar, but I cant even seem to do this. Any one else have the same problem? And if so, what to do...?

I'm sorry I can't be more of a help since I'm in Los Angeles, but what exactly is the issue? Do they simply not stock generic 1mg finasteride and instead stock Propecia?
The problem may be in the way you're asking it. Very rarely is it actually prescribed as "finasteride" even though that's the name of it. Instead, many generic drug providers tend to name it something that's similar to the brand name of it. For example, Dr. Reddy names their generic Proscar "Finast".
I don't know how knowledgeable Pharmacologists tend to be in the UK, but I'd try and find out exactly what they stock first.
Oddly enough, I've got a friend from the UK coming down to visit me this weekend. I'll prod his brain about this issue when he's here.

Hey mark,
Ye, so i have been asking around for propecia, but none of the 6 pharmacies i have asked have it in stock. Kind of wierd when i was under the impression it was a popular drug. Boots, a reputable chain of pharmacies, does 5mg finasteride as part of their 'hair retention programme], but as i said, i wanted to 'test the water' with 1mg, and then make the switch. I have also tried to contact Dr Farjo's office in london, via email, as to some advice, but to no response :( *waits patiently*
Hey
If you want Propecia in UK I highly recommend using http://www.pharmacy2u.co.uk/ HOWEVER if you want Propecia you need a private prescribtion which you need to show as evidence. Normally I would not endorse any site, because buying Propecia/finasteride online can be risky. But sites that demand a private presrbition can usually be trusted (since it is not illegal) + this site has a very good feedback on many forums. Also it is an offically registered pharmacy which which must follow specific conditions.
But since it is original Propecia the price is breathtaking. 92 pounds for 84 tabs......
I will also try to look for a pharamacy in London that has it in stock in case you prefer buying it directly. Just give me a day or two. Till then wait for Mark to get some "inside info" from his UK friend.

nice response lain, cheers.
Yeh i have managed to get a private prescription, i've spent alot of time deliberating over propecia, and i am keen to do things the right way.
Ah okay you got a prescribtion. Very strange that so many pharmacies dont have this product. In my country more or less any pharamacy can order Propecia.

Hey,
Additional query. With regards to private prescriptions and ordering online - how does that work? Does the courrier need to see the prescription before giving you the item? Or are you required to send it via post?
Aman
As far as I understand it, you must send them the prescribtion. I quote:
"...give us some simple registration and payment (if applicable) details, pop your prescription in the post and we'll make sure you receive your items by recorded delivery."
Quiet annoying. I agree. Its the same in my country when you order at offical online pharamcies that actually want a prescription as proof. But it gets the process done on a legal basis.
