I am 22 years old and a senior in college. I am living and working on my own and over the past year I started to notice hair loss. I used to have nice thick hair, kind of that Owen Wilson hair style, and grew it long but I noticed in the front that it was getting very thin and looked strange when I left it down. I then cut it shorter so it looks somewhat better now. It does not really seem to be slowing down at all and the hair has receded from my temples and given me the widow peak on both sides. My right side has seemed to recede farther and it is almost exactly 3 inches up from my eyebrow. I do not really see much hair loss at the top but I'm sure its going to come eventually. I have heard that Proprecia does not help for thinning in the front, so in my case would it not do much good? Another HUGE factor to me is money. I don't have alot and $60.00 a month on hair pills is just something I can't spend. Does anyone know the average on what it costs per month? Also, when is a good time to start on it? I have no doubt in my mind that eventually I will need to start taking it if I ever want to keep any of my hair. My moms dad is completely bald and lost his hair fairly young, but my dads father has a full head of hair at 80. So I am kind of torn on when to start. I can post pictures as well. This worries me as someone who is going out into the job market and leaving school soon. I could deal with this if I was 40 and married but for a young guy it is something that really has been tearing me up. I also wear at had probably 90% of the time as well. Does that ever have anything to do with it? Anyone can feel free to anwser any of my questions. Just looking for someone to talk to! Thanks!

Hey mate

I will try to go through your questions step by step:

- Propecia works also in the front, whereas studies have showed it works best in the back

- Propecia is very expensive. Proscar (the generic version) is fairly cheap. I pay for 180 days of supply about 110 Euros. Its not even a dollar per day.

- "I also wear at had probably 90% of the time as well." Do you mean you wear a hat 90 % of the time? If so don’t worry about it. It does not cause hair loss. (If I got that wrong just ignore my statement)

- The question "When to start Propecia" is probably answered best: When you experience hair loss caused by your genes! Rule nr 1: the earlier you start the better it is. However I urgently advice you to talk to a doctor about taking the drug. There are some side effects. Only listening to some dude from a forum just isnt enough. :)

Should I go to a hair doctor? Or should I just go to a regular doctor? I was thinking maybe a dermatologist? Would they be able to help? I would prefer to talk to someone who knows something about hair loss. I live in the Cincinnati area, how would I even look up someone to talk to? Also, on average, how much does Proprecia cost a month? At this point I am willing to do just about anything.

Dermatologist are certainly a good address for hair loss. However in my country not all dermatologists are very educated in hair loss and sometimes their advices can be considered strange.

Hair transplant doctors certainly are another address to head to. But be careful not to get yourself in a HT which you don't need. Always try to look for a credible doctor. In the Ohio area the Hair transplant network recommends Dr. Robert Haber.

In my country 1 package of Propecia costs 55 $. This lasts for 28 days. Selecting Proscar is by a whole lot cheaper however this is your choice.

I found the SUN drugstore online that sells generic proprecia for .43 cents a pill. I can get a whole year for only $200 after shipping. It seems kind of strange just ordering this stuff online without a prescription or seeing a doctor? Is this something that I could just buy and start taking? Or should I definately see a doctor first. I saw a doctor about it about a year and a half ago and he didn't really do anything, he just said, hey if you want to try rogaine go for it and if you want to try proprecia thats fine its just really expensive. Also, I am willing to spend the extra money to make sure it works, I don't want to buy some half dose stuff from Japan that won't work. Have you had any experience with stuff like this that works just as well as the real thing I would get at say CVS?

There are many brands of generic Propecia out there. Sadly the site that you refer to does not state what brand name they exactly sell. (e.g. Finpecia, Apecia) Finpecia is one of the most sold if I understand correctly.

Buying prescription drugs over the internet without requiring a prescription is certainly always risky. Best thing really to do is to get Proscar at your local pharmacy with a prescription. Proscar produced by MERCK from your pharmacy should be bullet proof real.

If you live in the states I think it is illegal getting generic Finasteride which is not produced by MERCK since they still hold the patent of it.
